{Scope of the 1st European Summer School "Proteomic Basics" 2007} Sample preparation, protein separation and purification are prerequisites for successful protein identification, including the detection of protein modification and determination of quantities. Thus, the first EU-Summer School will go into detail of this topic, in connection with the question of the "right" sample. The tutorial lectures given by experts (see "Speakers") will cover different sample-preparation techniques for the different types of proteins (small versus large, hydrophobic versus hydrophilic, basic versus acidic, modified versus non-modified etc.) and the principles of chromatography and gel electrophoresis, starting with overviews of the methods and how they developed, followed by the different chromatographic and electrophoretic basic principles to separate the wide range of proteins and finally introducing modern analytical techniques that have been developed on the basis of both these techniques (for the preliminary program, see below). Additionally, applications of the various techniques will be addressed in more detail in different workshops. |
